About this place
Start with a small plate of cucumber salad, then choose a hearty bowl of meat. At Trigger Beef, you can put together a meal to suit your appetite, from a light bite to a substantial main. One diner described the cucumber salad as crisp, light and savoury. The menu also offers locally sourced smashed cucumber, edamame and Kyoto pickles—easy options if you would like something to nibble on first.
The centrepiece is a Kyoto-style roast beef bowl, with a choice of sauces. Options include Kyoto Marusawa soy sauce, a spiced salt sauce with black shichimi and a wasabi ponzu sauce featuring Shogoin turnip. Meat portions range from 80g to 160g. You can also upgrade to Kyoto Wagyu or change the rice to a large serving or garlic rice. Diners have praised the combination of a steak bowl and soup. The menu’s steak bowls with sweet sauce and Kyoto sansho salt, or wasabi soy sauce, come with Wagyu tendon soup. Garlic rice is another option, letting you customise the bowl to your taste.
For something other than a rice bowl, consider the Kyoto duck paitan ramen or the Kyoto Wagyu rib-cap steak paitan ramen. One diner who tried the duck ramen with small plates remarked on the pale broth and noodles that had absorbed it well. To finish, there is homemade almond jelly made with Miyama milk, as well as a parfait flavoured with Uji matcha.
